01. A, B and C working together, can do a piece of work in 18 days. A could do it alone in 72 days. After working together for 6 days, A falls ill. How long will B and C together take to finish the remaining work?
A. 15 days B. 14 days
C. 16 days D. 13 days

Answer and Explanation

Answer: 16 days

Explanation:
(A + B + C)’s 1 day work = 1/18
In 6 days (A + B + C) do 6/18 of work, i.e. 1/3 of work
Balance work = 1 – 1/3 = 3-1/3 = 2/3
A’s one day work = 1/72
(B + C)’s 1 day work = 1/18 – 1/72 = 3/72 = 1/24
(B + C) will take 2/3 × 24 = 16 days

03. Three men, A, B, C together fill a pit in 1 ½ hours throwing in respectively 8, 10 and 12 equal shovelfuls of earth per minute. How many minutes, woking alone, could each man have filled up the pit?
A. 450,270,225 B. 337.5, 270,225
C. 187.5,150,125 D. None of these

Answer and Explanation

Answer: 337.5, 270,225

Explanation:
In 1 ½ hours, i.e. 90 min, A throws 8 × 90 = 720 shovels of mud
B throws 10 × 90 = 900 shovels of mud
C throws 12 × 90 = 1080 shovels of mud
Total shovels of mud thrown in 90 min = 720 + 900 + 1080 = 2700
Time that A alone require = 2700/8 = 337.5 min
Time that B alone requires 2700/10 = 270 min.
Time that C alone requires = 2700/12 = 225 min.

04. Three taps A, B and C together can fill a tank in 6 hours. After working for 2 hours, C is closed and A and B filled the tank in 8 more hours. Find the time in which C alone can fill the tank.
A. 6 hrs B. 8 hrs
C. 12 hrs D. 24 hrs

Answer and Explanation

Answer: 12 hrs

Explanation:
In one hour (A + B + C) can fill 1/6 of the tank
In 2 hours ( A + B + C) can fill 2/6 = 1/3 of the tank
Remaining part of the tank to be filled = 1 – 1/3 = 2/3 of the tank
Time taken by (A+B) to fill 2/3 of tank = 8 hours
(A+B) can fill the whole tank in 8 × 3/2 = 12 hours
C alone can fill the tank in [1/6 – 1/12 = 1/12]
12 hours

A. 2*15/71 B. 2*2/71
C. 2*50/71 D. 3

Answer and Explanation

Answer: 2*50/71

07. A can do a work in 32 days and B in 40 days. They worked together for 10 days and then B leaves the work. In how many days will A alone finish the remaining work?
A. 12 days B. 10/3 days
C. 17.5 days D. 14 days

Answer and Explanation

Answer: 14 days

Explanation:
A’s one day work = 1/32 and B’s one day work = 1/40
(A+B)’s one day work = 1/32 + 1/40 = 5+4/160 = 9/160
(A+B)’s 10 days work = 9 × 10 / 160 = 9/16
Remaining work = 1 – 9/16 = 7/16
A will finish the work in 7/16 / 1/32 = 14 days.

A. 12 sec B. 14 sec
C. 16 sec D. 13 sec

Answer and Explanation

Answer: 14 sec

Explanation:
In 4 seconds, the car reduce the distance by 100 cm. hence in 12 seconds, the distance is reduced to 200 cm. in the 13th and 14th second, the cars come forward by 100 cm each and hence collide. So the gap of 500 cm is reduced in 14 seconds.

10. A tap can fill a cistern in 10 minutes, while the othercan empty it in 15 minutes. The cistern being empty and if both the taps are opened together, in how many minutes will the cistern be full?
A. 20 B. 30
C. 6 D. 60

Answer and Explanation

Answer: 30

Explanation:
